Transforming a complex online academy into one coherent digital experience for students, teachers and administrators
Ulum Al-Azhar required significantly more than a conventional course website. Its educational ecosystem covers Quran, Tajweed, Qira'at, Arabic, Islamic Studies, Maqamat and children's programs, alongside private and group learning paths and a student journey that moves from evaluation and track selection to learning, progress monitoring and certification.
The complexity increased with multiple user roles. Students needed their own learning environment, teachers required dedicated access and profiles, and administrators needed a separate management layer. At the public-facing level, the academy also required a structured instructor directory with individual profiles presenting qualifications, specializations, languages, academic backgrounds and relevant credentials.
The platform also had to operate as an ecommerce business. Alongside educational services, the website includes a WooCommerce store for Quran, Qira'at and Tajweed publications, creating an additional commerce journey that needed to coexist naturally with the academy experience.
The Solution
A fully redesigned WordPress experience connecting education, role-based access, instructor discovery and ecommerce under one digital architecture
The website was redesigned from the ground up rather than adapting a pre-built UiCore demo. Elementor Pro was used to create a custom visual system and page structure aligned with the academy's academic identity and the needs of an international learning audience.
The experience was structured around the learner's actual journey: discovering programs, requesting a free evaluation, identifying the right learning track, registering, beginning classes, monitoring progress and reaching certification or advanced study pathways. The current website explicitly presents this journey through consultation, registration, learning, progress tracking and graduation stages.
A role-based platform structure supports separate environments for students, teachers and administrators, extending the project beyond a marketing website into a functional educational platform. The public website also connects to a dedicated Student Portal, while the academy's app experience highlights class access, attendance, assessments, reports, scheduling and teacher communication.
Course discovery was structured across disciplines, learner levels and audiences, while detailed course pages communicate program objectives, duration, requirements, expected outcomes and relevant instructors. This creates a more scalable academic content architecture for a growing course library.
The instructor experience was also treated as an important part of the platform. Dedicated teacher profiles present qualifications, specialization, language capabilities and educational background, while the broader directory makes it easier for learners to understand who will guide their studies.
WooCommerce provides the commerce layer for the academy's book and Mushaf store, while the bank-transfer gateway supports additional payment workflows. Fluent Forms supports inquiries and lead-capture forms, EmbedPress provides flexibility for educational documents and embedded media, WP Rocket handles performance optimization, and Rank Math supports the website's SEO management.
The redesign also accommodates the academy's institutional side. A dedicated partnership experience addresses schools, academies, mosques and educational organizations, making the website capable of supporting both individual learners and institutional relationships.
